NTRM was written from 2015 - 2018 and mirrors the language and recommendations of that time. However, after dozens of performances and audience talk backs, I have incorporated helpful feedback regarding the depiction of certain characters as well as the use of specific terminology to keep the show as relevant and inclusive as possible without sacrificing vital story elements. NTRM is a living, breathing, constantly changing work which makes it thrilling to perform for new audiences.

As one audience member said after a performance, "I'm not a mom but I could identify with this messy, exhilarating, scary, profound, soul searching portrayal of life." Although the given circumstances are specific, the story of not feeling up to the task at hand, reckoning with one's self-judgement, and transforming a seeming deficit into a full fledged superpower--is universal and relatable to all audiences.

The title Lemur Mom was supposed to be the opposite of Tiger Mom. While tigers are fierce, protective, assertive animals, lemurs on the other hand, "cling to a branch and stare big-eyed into the darkness" (which is how I often felt as a mom). But after performing the show for a while, I found that many people are not very familiar with lemurs which caused confusion around the title. Not the Right Mom refers to the negative self-talk that many phenomenal moms (some of whom I know personally!) reckon with on a daily basis. My hope with this show is to provide a space to laugh at the absurdity of parenthood and find relief in our shared experience.
